Stephen Jenkins was born in Cincinnati and earned degrees at Middletown Fine Arts Center in Middletown, OH and Ohio University. 

Jenkins left illustration in 1974 to pursue a career in fine art and has been painting ever since. He was on the faculty of Baker Hunt Art & Cultural Center in Covington, KY, teaching three weekly classes of oil painting for 24 years, retiring in 2015. 

He has worked in museums and art galleries, and taught painting, among other jobs, to help support his artist career. Jenkins has a studio at The Essex in Mt. Auburn, Cincinnati.
